NEW YORK — The corruption trial of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey began with opening arguments on May 15. The charges accuse Menendez and his wife of accepting bribes from 2018 to 2022, including cash, gold bars, a Mercedes Benz, and other items of value from businessmen Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes. In exchange, Menendez allegedly used his senatorial influence to benefit these businessmen and foreign interests.
