Newport News Police Department Seeks Help to Identify Robbery Suspect

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is requesting public assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a recent robbery at a local business. On Monday, May 20, at around 5:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Dollar General located on the 200 block of Beech Drive following a theft report.

The incident began when a suspect left the store without paying for numerous items. After being confronted by a store clerk outside, the suspect followed the clerk back inside and appeared to threaten them. He then walked behind the counter and stole several packs of cigarettes before fleeing on foot toward Todds Lane in Hampton.

The suspect is described as a Black male, between 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-7 tall, last seen wearing light blue athletic pants, with no shirt or footwear, and carrying a maroon sweatshirt in his hand.

Anyone with information about this individual or the incident is encouraged to contact the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip online at P3Tips.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous, are not required to testify in court, and could receive a reward of up to $1,500 for tips leading to an arrest.
