Man sought in Lexington Avenue store theft, slashing of employee

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Police are searching for a suspect who slashed a store employee while attempting to steal merchandise from a business on the Upper East Side, authorities said.

The incident occurred Sunday, February 9, at approximately 7:40 p.m. when an unidentified individual entered a commercial establishment at 1280 Lexington Avenue and began taking items. When a 34-year-old male employee confronted the suspect, the worker sustained a laceration to his right hand while trying to retrieve the stolen goods, police said.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on Third Avenue. The employee was treated by EMS at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

The NYPD has not yet released a description of the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
