Man fatally shot in Bronx apartment building, police say

BRONX, N.Y. — A 26-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday morning inside a residential building in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx, according to the NYPD.

Officers from the 42nd Precinct responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at 1007-09 East 174th Street at approximately 9:39 a.m. Upon arrival, police found Kasiem Johnson unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Emergency medical services transported Johnson to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released details about the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Detectives spent several hours at the scene Saturday interviewing possible witnesses and collecting evidence from inside the building. It remains unclear whether the shooting took place during a confrontation or was part of a targeted attack.

Officials have not identified any suspects or released information regarding a potential motive.

The incident adds to a string of recent shootings in the area under active investigation by the NYPD.
