HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — A sweeping Labor Day weekend enforcement operation resulted in 358 motor vehicle stops, 103 summonses and 10 arrests across parts of Morris and Warren counties, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.
More than 40 officers took part in the high-visibility detail, targeting speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, seat belt violations and driving while intoxicated.
Officers Make 10 Arrests During Traffic Detail
Police reported three arrests for outstanding warrants and three arrests for DWI.
Four other people were arrested on controlled dangerous substance charges. Police said two of those arrests involved possession with intent to distribute.
Authorities did not release the names of those arrested or provide details about the individual traffic stops. All charges are accusations unless proven otherwise in court.
The enforcement operation came as departments across New Jersey stepped up patrols for the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which focuses on alcohol- and drug-impaired driving.
Nine Agencies Join Regional Crackdown
Hackettstown police coordinated the operation with the Mount Olive Township, Roxbury Township, Washington Township, Stanhope, Chester Township, Byram Township and Netcong police departments. The Morris County Sheriff’s Office also participated.
The coordinated effort placed officers throughout the region during one of the year’s busiest travel periods. Police said the goal was to reduce serious crashes and unsafe behavior through education, enforcement and a visible presence on local roads.
The department’s Traffic Division handles radar enforcement, crash investigations, pedestrian safety and complaints involving unsafe driving in Hackettstown.
Holiday Patrols Expanded Across New Jersey
The North Jersey operation was part of a wider holiday safety push. Shore News Network previously reported that New Jersey State Police increased patrols along the Atlantic City Expressway as Labor Day traffic moved toward and away from the Jersey Shore.
Other departments also reported multiple DWI cases after the holiday. In Monmouth County, Wall Township police recorded nine DWI arrests during a six-day period.
Hackettstown police urged drivers to obey posted speed limits, put down their phones, use seat belts and never drive while impaired. The participating agencies said regional traffic enforcement efforts will continue as they work to prevent crashes on New Jersey roads.
