82 year old man dies after being struck by vehicle in Buffalo police say

BUFFALO, N.Y. – An 82-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle Friday afternoon on Elmwood Avenue, according to the Buffalo Police Department.

Police said the crash occurred around 3:17 p.m. on January 9 near 74 Elmwood Avenue. The victim was transported by AMR to Erie County Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning.

Investigators confirmed the driver involved was an off-duty peace officer with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office operating his personal vehicle. The officer remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Buffalo Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case, and in accordance with New York State law, the State Attorney General’s Office has been notified.
