PITTSBURGH, PA – On June 1, 2024, just after 11:30 p.m., detectives from the Violence Prevention Unit conducting proactive patrols in the Arlington neighborhood observed suspicious activity that led to multiple arrests and the recovery of firearms.

While patrolling the 2400 block of S.18th Street, uniformed detectives engaged a group of five males. One individual, who was visibly carrying an open liquor container, refused to comply when approached by the detectives.

He dropped the bottle and fled, prompting a brief foot chase. The detectives apprehended him and discovered he was carrying a firearm with an extended magazine and a laser attachment.

Further investigation at the scene led to the recovery of a second firearm with a loaded magazine and laser attachment, hidden in a nearby garbage can. Two additional males from the group were detained during the operation.

Deandre Basking-Turner, 18, was arrested and faces charges including Carrying a Firearm without a License, Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot, Open Container, Possession, and Underage Drinking. The incident underscores ongoing efforts to address violence and promote safety in the community.
