MINEOLA, N.Y. – Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced the conviction of Martin Carpio, a 36-year-old from North Bellmore, for a violent stabbing that occurred during a St. Patrick’s Day event in March 2023. The incident took place in Farmingdale, resulting in severe injuries to a 21-year-old man.

Carpio was found guilty of first-degree assault, a B violent felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, an A misdemeanor. However, he was acquitted of attempted murder in the second degree and two counts of attempted assault in the third degree.

The altercation began in the early hours of March 5, following a bar crawl event named “LepreCon.” According to DA Donnelly, Carpio escalated a confrontation by using a three-and-a-half-inch blade to stab the victim twice in the chest, critically injuring his lung and diaphragm. The victim required lifesaving surgery at Nassau University Medical Center.

The incident reportedly started when Carpio made inappropriate advances toward a 15-year-old girl, leading to a confrontation with her father and the stabbing of another young man trying to intervene.

The trial, which began on May 20, 2024, concluded after six days of jury deliberation. Carpio now faces up to 25 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for August 9, 2024. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joseph Grasso and Alexa Mirotznik.
