TRENTON, NJ — The New Jersey Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee has endorsed Assembly Bill No. 506 with specific amendments. This legislative proposal, intended for the 2024-2025 session, provides significant benefits for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients concerning parking fees.
As revised, the bill permits these individuals to avoid parking meter fees when they are either driving or are passengers in any vehicle, irrespective of the vehicle’s owner. This exemption, however, is limited to parking durations not exceeding 24 hours at a single location.
This committee’s latest amendment involved the removal of an unnecessary article from the bill, streamlining the text post-technical review. The bill now moves forward in the legislative process, signaling a step towards additional support for veterans and Purple Heart recipients in New Jersey.
