Former north braddock cop charged in drug trafficking and corruption case

HARRISBURG, PA—Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the arrest of former North Braddock police officer Craig Gibson on charges of drug trafficking and providing confidential law enforcement information to a drug trafficker. The charges were brought forward after a recommendation from the 51st Statewide Investigating Grand Jury, which reviewed evidence of Gibson’s alleged involvement in cocaine trafficking across Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, while serving as a police officer, Gibson acted as a drug runner and used his access to sensitive police information to help his supplier evade police detection. The FBI, along with the Pennsylvania State Police Western Organized Crime Unit, led the investigation into the trafficking operation.

Gibson faces several charges, including felony corrupt organizations, delivery of cocaine, and hindering prosecution. He was released on a non-monetary bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 8th at 1 p.m.

The case highlights significant concerns about corruption within law enforcement. “This investigation uncovers deeply concerning activities involving an officer who used his position to facilitate illegal drug trading, severely undermining public trust in law enforcement,” stated FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek. Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Adam Reed emphasized the commitment of local law enforcement to uphold integrity and accountability, especially when one of their own is involved in criminal activities.
