COLUMBIA, MD — Howard County Police are conducting an investigation into the tragic death of a 3-year-old boy, resulting from an accidental shooting inside a home on Harpers Farm Road in Columbia on July 1. Authorities are working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the gunshot was self-inflicted or fired by another person in the home.

Detectives have discovered that a handgun was left unsecured within the residence. At the time of the incident, the child’s 5-year-old brother and their parents were present. Police currently do not suspect foul play or involvement from individuals outside the household.
