TAKOMA PARK, MD – A 34-year-old man from Silver Spring has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on June 3, 2024, in Takoma Park. Montgomery County Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has charged Efrain Diaz Romero with multiple offenses following the death of 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas.

The tragic event unfolded when Rojas Rojas was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on University Boulevard East. The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene after the collision. Rojas Rojas was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Through diligent investigative efforts, detectives were able to locate the Chevrolet and identified Diaz Romero as the driver responsible for the death of Rojas Rojas. Following his arrest, Diaz Romero was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He faces charges including failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, among other traffic-related offenses.

Diaz Romero is currently being held without bond as the case proceeds.
