Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation Near Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, DE – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal collision involving two vehicles that occurred near Middletown on Friday.

The incident took place on August 10, 2024, at around 4:56 p.m., when a northbound Ford Explorer on Summit Bridge Road collided with a Ford Edge. The Edge, which was traveling southbound, was making a left turn into Red Lion Road when it entered the Explorer’s path, leading to the crash.

The impact of the collision resulted in injuries to several occupants of both vehicles. The driver of the Edge, a 66-year-old man from Media, Pennsylvania, along with two passengers—a 79-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, and a 28-year-old woman from Media, Pennsylvania—suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another passenger, a 61-year-old woman also from Media, sustained serious injuries. An 83-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, who was also in the Edge, was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

The occupants of the Explorer, a 25-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, and a 29-year-old woman from North Brunswick, New Jersey, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
