STAFFORD COUNTY, Va., Aug. 16, 2024 — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office released details of several incidents that occurred on August 15, 2024, including an assault at a local school, a hit-and-run involving a school bus, larcenies at a Target store, and two cases of public intoxication.
Assault at Mountain View Road:
At 8:16 a.m., Deputy H. Rivera, serving as a School Resource Officer, was alerted to a fight at 2135 Mountain View Road. Following a school assembly, one student assaulted another. Criminal complaints for assault and battery have been filed against the primary aggressor.
Hit and Run on Garrisonville Road:
At 9:00 p.m., Deputy K.W. Suter witnessed a hit-and-run at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Richmond Highway. A gold sedan struck a school bus and then fled the scene. With assistance from an Aquia Harbour officer, the suspect vehicle was located at Brent Park. The driver, found to have multiple traffic offenses, was charged with hit-and-run, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance, using fictitious tags, and operating an unregistered vehicle. The driver was released on personal recognizance by the magistrate.
Larcenies at Stafford Market Place and Auto Dealership:
At 7:05 a.m., a Mercedes vehicle was reported stolen from First Auto Gallery at 24 Derrick Lane. The vehicle has been entered as stolen into a law enforcement database.
Later, at 3:28 p.m., a juvenile was caught shoplifting nearly $100 worth of items from Target at 1090 Stafford Market Place. A criminal complaint was filed against the juvenile.
In a separate incident at the same Target at 5:58 p.m., Deputy E.C. Taylor responded to a report of a male suspect stealing approximately $160 worth of items. The suspect, who had previously committed thefts at the store, was identified and later apprehended. He has been charged with one count of shoplifting for this incident and three additional counts for previous thefts. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
Public Intoxication Cases:
At 4:35 p.m., Deputy B.E. Vaughn responded to a disturbance at the Comfort Inn on Salisbury Drive. A female suspect, who was intoxicated and attempting to enter vehicles, was apprehended after fleeing to a nearby motel. She was charged with public intoxication and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
Another public intoxication incident occurred at Falmouth Beach, 401 River Road, at 7:12 p.m. Deputy C.M. Sterne responded to a report of a male suspect attempting to provoke women. The male, found to be under the influence despite posted no-alcohol signs, was also charged with public intoxication and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.
These incidents are part of the daily challenges faced by law enforcement in Stafford County as they work to maintain public safety and order.
