LAUREL, Del. — Delaware State Police have arrested Darnell Strand, 47, of Blades, on felony DUI and gun charges following a crash investigation on Friday evening. The incident occurred on September 6, 2024, around 9:10 p.m. on Seaford Road near Camp Road.

Troopers were called to the scene after a collision between a Nissan Sentra and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before authorities arrived, they received reports that the driver of the Nissan, identified as Strand, was attempting to flee the scene. Upon arrival, troopers found Strand displaying signs of impairment and refusing to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

When officers attempted to arrest him, Strand resisted but was eventually taken into custody. A search of his person revealed approximately 25 grams of marijuana. During a subsequent search of the Nissan, troopers discovered a scale and a loaded handgun. A background check indicated that Strand had two previous DUI convictions and is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
