Arson case opened after man critically injured in Bayonne fire

BAYONNE, N.J. — A fire that critically injured a 56-year-old man is under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department, authorities announced Monday.

The fire broke out at a residential building on 167 West 9th Street shortly after 5:20 p.m., according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. Multiple reports alerted the Bayonne Fire Department to the blaze, which was located in the basement of the building.

Emergency responders discovered the injured man at the scene and transported him to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities have not yet released further details. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force.
