18-year-old arrested for dui with car full of twisted tea cans

STAFFORD, Va. — An 18-year-old driver was arrested Tuesday night in Stafford County after being found intoxicated behind the wheel following a high-speed, reckless driving incident, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy R. Tully observed a Ford pickup lose control and fishtail while turning onto Richmond Highway at around 9:32 p.m. on September 24. The driver, who then accelerated and began passing vehicles in multiple lanes, was pulled over by Tully after the deputy caught up to the truck.

The sheriff’s office reported that the driver, whose name has not been released, initially attempted to present a debit card as his driver’s license. Tully detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed several cans of Twisted Tea in the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered an additional quantity of the alcoholic beverage.

After conducting field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, unlawful possession of alcohol, reckless driving, and other related offenses. He was taken to Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.

The sheriff’s office emphasized the dangerous driving behavior, which included failing to maintain control of the vehicle and excessive exhaust noise.
