HAZLET, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a female pedestrian Sunday night at the intersection of State Highway 36 and Union Avenue.

Hazlet Township Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:49 p.m. on December 8, after a southbound vehicle struck the pedestrian in the right lane of State Highway 36 near the intersection.

The woman was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m., according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. The driver of the vehicle, a male, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The circumstances leading to the collision are under investigation. Officials have not yet released the identities of the driver or the victim.
