Police Manhunt for Suspect in Church Construction Heist

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of stealing toolboxes from a church on January 17, 2025, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. announced Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Redeemed Christian Church, located in the 900 block of South 18th Street, at approximately 7 p.m. According to police, the church’s pastor witnessed the suspect fleeing the building with several items. Upon inspection, the pastor discovered the back door had been damaged and multiple toolboxes belonging to a construction company working at the church were missing.

The suspect is described as a Black male wearing dark clothing, a green hoodie, and a large coat. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and have released a description in an effort to identify the individual.
