NEW JERSEY — NJ commuters faced a series of disruptions this morning as accidents, construction, and volume delays crippled major highways and tunnels.

At 8:15 a.m., emergency construction and a sinkhole on I‑80 eastbound at Exit 34 near NJ 15 in Wharton forced all lanes closed and detoured.

A vehicle fire on I‑280 westbound west of Exit 12 on the Garden State Parkway in East Orange led to the closure of two right lanes as of 8:07 a.m.

A crash on the New Jersey Turnpike – Hudson County Extension eastbound west of the Newark Bay Bridge in Newark was reported at 7:59 a.m., with vehicles shifted to the right shoulder though all lanes remained open.

Commuters should note heavy traffic on I‑80 eastbound from east of Exit 30 (Howard Blvd in Roxbury Township) to west of Exit 34 in Wharton, where travel times currently range from 15 to 20 minutes. Delays also persist on I‑76 westbound from Exit 1A (NJ 42/I‑295) in Bellmawr to west of Exit 1B (I‑295) in Gloucester City, with all lanes open but slowed by volume.

Additional slowdowns have been reported on the Garden State Parkway northbound between Exit 143C (NJ 124 in Irvington Township) and Exit 145 (I‑280 in East Orange), creating a 2‑mile delay, and on the New Jersey Turnpike outside exit Interchange 15E (US 1 & 9 in Newark) due to heavy traffic.

Drivers on US 46 eastbound from west of Main St to Eyland Ave/Mekeel Dr in Roxbury Township and on NJ 10 eastbound from Ledgewood Traffic Circle to Eyland Place are experiencing delays with travel times estimated at 10–15 minutes.

Significant delays extend into the tunnels and bridges: the Holland Tunnel’s south tunnel eastbound now requires a 20‑minute trip from NJ Turnpike Exit 14C and NJ 139 at Tonnelle Circle; on the George Washington Bridge, the lower and upper levels in Fort Lee report travel times of 35 and 45 minutes respectively on I‑95 from I‑80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge; and both the Lincoln Tunnel center and south tunnels eastbound on the NJ side in Weehawken Township are reporting delays with travel times of approximately 25 minutes from NJ Turnpike Exit 16E to New York.

Additional delays have been noted on US 40 eastbound west of NJ 50/CR 616/Mill St in Hamilton Township and on NJ 47 southbound north of CR 610/Petersburg Rd in Dennis Township. Furthermore, a 5‑mile delay is reported on the Garden State Parkway northbound between north of Exit 148 (John F. Kennedy Dr North in Bloomfield) and Exit 153A (NJ 3 in Clifton).
