Wildwood investigating 'project x' pop up parties, warning organizers of illegal events

WILDWOOD, NJ – Law enforcement officials are investigating a social media post promoting an unauthorized “Pop-Up” party, dubbed “Project X,” that could pose safety risks during the upcoming season, authorities announced.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy said the gathering is not sanctioned by local officials and emphasized their commitment to preventing any illegal events that could disrupt public order.

“We are fully aware of the risks that these unsanctioned ‘Pop-Up’ parties pose to public safety, including crowd control issues, the potential for violence, and the strain they place on our law enforcement resources,” Sutherland said, adding that authorities are working to identify those responsible for promoting the event.

Officials warned that similar gatherings at New Jersey shore towns in recent years have led to overcrowding, illegal drug use, public disturbances, and violent confrontations. Wildwood also enforces a strict 10:00 p.m. curfew for juveniles, and guardians could face charges if minors violate the curfew without supervision.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the event or its organizers to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office or the Wildwood Police Department. Tips can be reported anonymously through official channels.

Law enforcement continues to monitor potential threats and will take all necessary steps to prevent unauthorized gatherings.
