ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State Police announced the retirement of K9 Nate on Friday, marking the end of an eight-year career with Troop F’s Bomb Disposal Unit.

K9 Nate, a longtime partner to Trooper Jason Cole, played a critical role in public safety operations, from tracking criminal suspects and locating missing persons to supporting security at large-scale events across the state. He also participated in numerous community outreach events, helping foster trust between law enforcement and the public.

“K9 Nate, happy retirement & thank you for your devoted service not only to your handler but the people of the State of New York,” the agency posted on social media.

Following his final day on patrol, K9 Nate was officially retired to live at home with his family. He will be succeeded by K9 Natty, who now takes up the mantle of service and continues the legacy as a namesake of Trooper Nathaniel Burroughs.

The department expressed gratitude for Nate’s years of loyalty and professionalism, calling his service “remarkable.”
