A man was killed early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Adelphi after his car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a parked vehicle, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The crash occurred around 12:50 a.m. in the 8600 block of Riggs Road. Police said the adult male driver was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered into the southbound lanes and struck an unoccupied, parked car.

Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. Investigators with the department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) are working to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal impact.

Police have not indicated whether speed, impairment, or road conditions played a role in the crash. The vehicle’s speed at the time of the collision and any mechanical issues are part of the ongoing investigation.

The stretch of Riggs Road where the crash occurred remained closed for several hours early Monday as investigators collected evidence and documented the scene. The road has since been reopened.
