TRENTON, N.J. — Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) issued an update Friday on the progress of Interstate 80 repairs, confirming that construction remains on schedule following major sinkhole damage that disrupted traffic in both directions.
Bucco reported that two construction teams are currently working simultaneously on the eastbound and westbound sides of I-80. Two lanes eastbound are expected to reopen by mid-May, while two westbound lanes are slated to reopen by the end of May. Full reopening in both directions is targeted for June 25.
Repairs under the I-80 bridges over Route 15 were completed on May 2, marking a key milestone in the larger repair effort.
“As work continues on Interstate 80 following the significant sinkhole damage, I hope it comes as welcomed news… that the repairs remain on schedule,” Bucco said in a statement, thanking residents, commuters, and businesses for their patience.
Bucco pledged to continue coordinating with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to monitor progress and explore options for accelerating the timeline without compromising safety.
