CARMEL, IN — A man was arrested Friday night after allegedly stabbing two patrons during a fight at a brewery in Carmel’s 12700 block of Meeting House Road, according to police.
Carmel Police said officers responded to a disturbance call around 10:44 p.m. on May 23. While en route, dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting that a man had stabbed another in the back and remained on the scene.
Upon arrival, officers detained the suspect and began providing medical aid. One man suffered a stab wound to the back and was taken to a local hospital. A second man sustained a stab wound to his lower leg and sought medical attention later.
The suspect, identified as Jarrett Funke, was transported to the Carmel Police Department for questioning and later booked into the Hamilton County Jail. He faces charges including battery by means of a deadly weapon, battery, and disorderly conduct.
Police say altercation tied to sports argument
According to investigators, the altercation began as a verbal dispute during the New York Knicks–Indiana Pacers NBA playoff game. Witnesses reported that Funke, a Pacers fan, became aggressive with two other patrons after overhearing them cheering for the Knicks.
The argument escalated, and Funke allegedly pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed both men before being restrained. One witness told dispatchers the suspect yelled “Take this outside!” before the confrontation turned violent.
The incident occurred inside a brewery on Meeting House Road, though the establishment’s name has not been officially released by police. Authorities have not yet disclosed the conditions of the victims.
Funke remains in custody pending formal charges from the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office.
