TRENTON, N.J. — Monday’s early morning commute in New Jersey began with moderate travel times on major shore routes but was marked by several delays, crashes, and construction across the state.

Shore-bound drivers on the Garden State Parkway South experienced relatively smooth conditions. Travel from the Raritan Toll Plaza to Exit 117 in Sandy Hook via local lanes took approximately 7 minutes. Trips to Belmar (Exit 98) held steady at 25 minutes, whether using express or local lanes. Longer drives to Long Beach Island (Exit 63) were just under an hour via both routes. Southbound to Atlantic City (Exit 38), motorists reported 1 hour and 22 minutes of drive time, while Ocean City (Exit 28) ranged between 1 hour 30 minutes and 1 hour 32 minutes. Travel to Wildwood (Exit 4) averaged 1 hour and 54 minutes.

On US Route 22, eastbound and westbound conditions remained manageable. Eastbound from Country Club Road to I-287 (4.4 miles) took just 5 minutes, while a longer stretch from N. Gaston Avenue to US 1&9 (25.1 miles) took 34 minutes. Westbound from Glenside Avenue to I-287 (12.1 miles) measured at 16 minutes.

Several incidents and active repairs were reported across the region. In Union City, a disabled vehicle on NJ 495 eastbound at Pleasant Avenue blocked the right lane of the exit ramp as of 7:11 a.m. All lanes on NJ 138 eastbound were closed at Allenwood Road in Wall Township due to a crash. A traffic signal down on US 130 in Haddon Township affected both directions north of NJ 168, restricting the right shoulder.

Ongoing construction work created further disruptions. Roving lane repairs on NJ 38 affected both directions from east of US 130 in Pennsauken Township to US 206 in Southampton Township, closing one of two lanes. Additionally, all lanes on US 130 between Carneys Point Township and Logan Township were closed for roving maintenance and detoured.

Delays were also reported on major crossings and highways. Both upper and lower levels of the George Washington Bridge eastbound remained open, but drivers faced 20-minute travel times from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge on I-95. NJ 495 eastbound experienced backups between Kennedy Boulevard and Pleasant Avenue in Union City. On the Garden State Parkway northbound, volume-related congestion caused a two-mile delay from Exit 145 (I-280) to Exit 148 (Bloomfield), though all lanes were open.
