Silver Spring retiree wins $100K on Double Your Money scratch-off
ROCKVILLE, MD – A retired educator from Silver Spring who has played the Maryland Lottery since its early days just claimed her biggest win yet — a $100,000 top prize on a $10 Double Your Money scratch-off ticket.
The Montgomery County woman purchased two tickets at Food Stop Mini, located at 4820 Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville. She said her choice was guided by her favorite number, 13, which was the ticket’s position in the store’s display.
After scratching the ticket in her car, she uncovered a 2X symbol with $50,000 beneath it, doubling the prize to $100,000. Unsure of her eyes, she returned inside the store to scan the ticket, where the machine confirmed the jackpot win.
She held onto the ticket for three weeks before heading to Lottery headquarters on August 15 to officially claim her prize. The longtime player, who retired after 23 years in education, said her winnings will go toward helping her family.
Food Stop Mini will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The Double Your Money game launched in July and still has 13 unclaimed $100,000 top prizes, along with two $50,000 prizes and thousands of smaller ones.
