Moonachie, NJ – A man was killed Monday afternoon after a mobile home explosion sparked a massive three-alarm fire in Bergen County, officials said.
Emergency crews rushed to 6th Street in Moonachie around 4:47 p.m. following reports of a blast and heavy flames. Responders from the Moonachie Police Department and Moonachie Fire Department, assisted by several neighboring agencies, battled the blaze before locating an adult male victim inside the destroyed home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of relatives.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad, along with the Moonachie Police Department, Moonachie Fire Department, and the Moonachie Fire Prevention Bureau, launched a joint investigation. Officials later determined the fire was not suspicious in nature.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella thanked multiple agencies for their assistance, including local fire departments, EMS, the Bergen County Hazmat team, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the River Vale Police Department, which is part of the county’s Arson Task Force.
