TRENTON, NJ – A stretch of warm and calm weather will open the week before a strong midweek front brings rain, thunderstorms, and a sharp drop in temperatures.

Monday will stay sunny with highs near 80 and light southerly breezes — a pleasant and mild October afternoon across much of the state.

Skies remain mostly clear overnight with lows around 56, but clouds begin to increase Tuesday as the next system approaches. Highs will reach the upper 70s again before showers and possible thunderstorms arrive late Tuesday night.

Forecasters expect widespread rain by early Wednesday, with up to three-quarters of an inch possible. Temperatures will fall to near 70 as winds shift from southwest to north during the day, ushering in noticeably cooler air.

By Wednesday night, skies will clear and lows will dip into the mid-40s. The cool pattern continues into Thursday and Friday, both days featuring sunshine and highs in the lower to mid-60s.
