Man dead after morning shooting at Philadelphia train station

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A man was fatally shot Friday morning inside a Center City train station, prompting a rapid response from SEPTA Police and an ongoing homicide investigation.

Officers were called to 15th and Market Streets around 7:25 a.m. after reports of a person armed with a gun.

Police found a 27-year-old man inside the underground station suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was taken to Jefferson Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries at 10:43 a.m.

Suspect turns himself in

Authorities said the 27-year-old suspect turned himself in to the 16th District shortly after the shooting, bringing a firearm believed to have been used in the incident. Police have not released the names of either man pending notification of family.

Investigation ongoing

Detectives from the Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what led to the confrontation. SEPTA officials said transit service at the busy Center City station was temporarily disrupted but later resumed with additional police presence.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit or submit tips anonymously through the department’s tip line.
