LAUREL, MD – A man was killed early Friday morning after his motorcycle veered off Route 216 and crashed, according to Howard County police.

The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a 2012 Honda CBR600RR traveling westbound left the roadway near Crest Road.

The operator, identified only as an adult male, was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigating cause of crash

Authorities have not released the man’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the motorcycle to leave the roadway.

Route 216 closed during investigation

Route 216 was temporarily closed in both directions between Crest Road and Leishear Road for several hours as crash reconstruction teams processed the scene and cleared debris. Traffic was reopened later in the morning.

No other vehicles involved

Police confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Howard County Police’s Collision Investigation Unit.
