Homeless teen charged with murder in Starlight Park shooting that killed Bronx man

BRONX, NY – Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting last month that left a 26-year-old victim dead inside Starlight Park.

The suspect, identified as Luis Alberto Lopez Castillo, was taken into custody Monday afternoon at 5:10 p.m. in the 43rd Precinct, authorities said.

He faces charges including murder, manslaughter, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Victim shot inside Bronx park in early September

The charges stem from a September 4 shooting at approximately 2:49 a.m., when officers responded to reports of gunfire inside Starlight Park on East 174th Street. They discovered Ronell Marte suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigation led to arrest weeks after killing

Marte was transported by EMS to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police continued the investigation for several weeks before identifying Lopez Castillo as a suspect.

Authorities have not released details regarding a possible motive or how the suspect was connected to the victim. The investigation remains active under the 43rd Precinct Detective Squad.
