ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for portions of New Jersey’s shoreline and nearby tidal communities, warning of minor flooding through Thursday evening as rain and gusty winds move in.

The advisory covers Ocean, Atlantic, Coastal Ocean, Coastal Atlantic, and Southeastern Burlington counties.

Forecasters expect up to one foot of inundation in low-lying areas near bays, tidal waterways, and shorelines.

Storm system to bring rain and wind

Today will bring mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers, with highs near 57 degrees and northeast winds around 10 mph. Conditions will deteriorate tonight as a stronger system approaches, bringing a 50% chance of rain and gusty winds up to 15 mph.

By Thursday, forecasters expect steady rain and potential thunderstorms, with some storms producing heavy rainfall. Up to an inch of rain is possible, and winds could gust as high as 35 mph along the coast.

Tidal flooding and travel impacts possible

The Weather Service warns that vulnerable coastal roads could experience flooding around times of high tide, leading to partial or full closures in some communities. Drivers are advised not to attempt to travel through flooded areas.

Rain is expected to taper off late Thursday night, with winds shifting west and gusting up to 25 mph. Friday will bring drier but breezy weather, with highs near 58 and gusts reaching 40 mph.

Residents along the coast are urged to monitor local alerts, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential minor flooding through Thursday evening.
