PARSIPPANY, N.J. – The Parsippany Police Department honored Patrolman Remo D’Alessandro on Thursday with a walkout ceremony marking his retirement after more than two decades of service.
The ceremony was attended by Mayor James R. Barberio, Chief Richard Pantina, fellow officers, and community members celebrating D’Alessandro’s 21-year law enforcement career.
He joined the Parsippany Police Department in 2004 after serving with the Paterson Police Department and the United States Marine Corps.

A distinguished career of service
Before joining Parsippany Police, D’Alessandro began his career in 2001 with the Paterson Police Department’s Patrol Division. He also served as a Drill Instructor at the Paterson Police Academy and assisted in Ground Zero recovery operations following the September 11 attacks.
After transferring to Parsippany in 2004, D’Alessandro served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms and Assault Rifle Instructor, and member of the Tactical Response Unit. His expertise later led him to the Support Services Section in 2013, where he became the department’s Community Relations Officer, Training Coordinator, and Accreditation Manager.
Focus on community engagement
Throughout his tenure, D’Alessandro launched several community-based initiatives, including the Citizen’s Police Academy and Coffee with a Cop. He regularly provided presentations on crime prevention, identity theft, distracted driving, and neighborhood safety. He also mentored youth through the department’s Junior Police Academy and Police Explorer’s Program.
Recognized for excellence
Ptl. D’Alessandro’s career earned him numerous honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal, two Life Saving Medals, a Command Citation, two Unit Commendations, the Rotary Club’s Outstanding Law Enforcement Award, and the Marksmanship Award.
Colleagues described him as a dedicated officer whose leadership and community outreach strengthened the department’s connection with residents. The Parsippany Police Department thanked him publicly for his commitment and wished him well in retirement.
