Teen charged after accidental shooting injures one in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – A 16-year-old male was arrested after a shooting on Schoolhouse Road left one person injured Friday evening, with investigators later determining the incident was accidental.
Virginia Beach Police responded to the area around 6:18 p.m. and located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, as the injuries were classified as non-life-threatening.
Following an initial investigation, detectives determined the shooting was not intentional but accidental. The teen suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges.
He has been charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in a Building, and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
The case remains under investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Detective Bureau. Officials are still working to determine how the minor gained access to the firearm and the events leading up to the discharge.
