GAITHERSBURG, MD – A 69-year-old woman from Silver Spring died Sunday afternoon after her vehicle overturned in a fatal single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Old Columbia Pike and Musgrove Road, according to Montgomery County Police.

Officers from the 3rd District and Fire Rescue personnel responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. and discovered a black Cadillac XT4 overturned with two occupants inside. The driver, identified as Laura Mae Martin, was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male passenger was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary findings by the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) indicate that Martin was traveling southbound on Old Columbia Pike when, for unknown reasons, she lost control of the Cadillac near Musgrove Road. The vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, struck a curb, left the roadway, hit two road signs, and ultimately overturned.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Investigators continue to examine the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
