JESSUP, MD – A Howard County paraeducator has been charged with a third-degree sexual offense after police say he had sexual contact with a 15-year-old student off school grounds.

Detectives identified the suspect as 26-year-old William Nelson II of Elkridge.

Nelson was arrested Thursday at Guilford Park High School, where he worked as a special education paraeducator.

Police allege off-campus encounter

According to Howard County Police, Nelson met the 15-year-old male victim through a dating app and later engaged in sexual activity in Nelson’s vehicle. Detectives said the encounter occurred on Nov. 12 and was reported to school staff the following day by the victim. Police were then contacted and launched an investigation.

Arrest and ongoing investigation

Nelson was taken into custody at Guilford Park High School on Nov. 13 and is being held at the Howard County Detention Center. Investigators said there is no indication the two had interacted at school or outside of the dating app before the incident. The Howard County Public School System confirmed Nelson was immediately placed on administrative leave following notification of the allegation.
