LINDEN, NJ – A 67-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car while attempting to cross multiple lanes of traffic on West Edgar Road Monday evening.
Linden Police said officers responded to the crash near Smith Street around 5:35 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian hit on the southbound side of U.S. Routes 1 and 9.
The pedestrian, identified as a Linden resident, was treated at the scene before being transported to Newark University Hospital.
Investigation underway
According to initial reports, the man was attempting to cross eight lanes of traffic when he was struck by a black 2019 Honda Accord traveling south. The driver, a 20-year-old Edison resident, was not injured and remained at the scene.
Police closed several lanes of Route 1 & 9 as investigators examined the area and collected evidence. The crash remains under active investigation by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau.

Authorities are reminding residents to use crosswalks and pedestrian signals, particularly on high-speed corridors like Route 1 & 9, which have seen multiple serious crashes in recent years.
