Man sentenced to life for fatal motel shooting over room dispute

Colbert County, AL – A man has received a life sentence for murdering a motel owner during a dispute regarding a room check-in. The owner’s daughter addressed the court, expressing her sorrow and anger toward the defendant.

William Moore was convicted of murder after shooting Pravin Patel three times during the altercation at the Hillcrest Motel in Sheffield. The shooting took place after Moore was told he was trespassing on the property.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, with one individual recalling the sounds as “pow, pow, pow.” Surveillance footage showed the moments leading up to and following the shooting.

Patel attempted to remove Moore from the premises when the situation escalated. Moore fired the shots before fleeing the scene.

During the trial, Colbert County Assistant District Attorney Summer George commented on the emotional toll the evidence took on the Patel family. She expressed condolences regarding the family’s experience during the trial.

Moore stated at his sentencing that he struggles with PTSD and has experienced homelessness. He claimed these factors contributed to his actions.

Patel’s daughter concluded her statement in court by saying the family would endure a life sentence of grief due to Moore’s actions.
