WILKES-BARRE, PA – Police are investigating an assault in which a 20-year-old man was attacked by several individuals and later chased by a suspect armed with a knife late Wednesday night.
The incident began around 10:49 p.m. in the 300 block of South Main Street and ended near Alexander and Elizabeth Streets, where the victim managed to escape and call for help.
Officers arrived to find the victim visibly shaken but uninjured, according to police.

Victim describes violent confrontation and escape
According to the victim, the attack began when four individuals arrived in a white mid-sized SUV. After exiting the vehicle, the group allegedly struck him several times in the face and ribs before he ran from the scene.
The victim told police the group chased him through nearby streets until one of the assailants, known to him only as “Maurice,” brandished a large knife and attempted to stab him. He said he evaded the attack by ducking and leaping over a fence before finding safety and contacting officers.
Police searching for suspects
Responding officers canvassed the area but did not locate the attackers. Investigators are working to identify the individuals involved and confirm the identity of the suspect known as “Maurice.”
