PG County man wins $50,000 top prize on Maryland lottery scratch-off

Lottery scratch off tickets for sale

OXON HILL, MD – A Prince George’s County man walked away $50,000 richer after hitting the top prize on Maryland Lottery’s Mosaic Money scratch-off.

The longtime lottery fan, who has been playing for about two years, claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters Monday and shared the story of his surprise win.

He said his early experience with smaller prizes helped build his confidence to keep playing. “If I can win small, I know I can win big,” he said.

His luck struck at the Gulf gas station on Livingston Road in Oxon Hill when a $5 Mosaic Money ticket caught his attention.

After scratching several tickets, he initially thought he had no winners — until the second-to-last ticket revealed something different. “When I scratched the ticket, I knew it was something,” he said.

Winning moment brings surprise and relief

When he scanned the ticket, he received the “See Retailer” message, a notice he had never seen before. Nervous but hopeful, he handed it to the clerk, who confirmed it was a $50,000 top prize winner.

The man said he was stunned by the result and has so far shared the good news only with close family. Though he hasn’t celebrated yet, he plans to use his winnings to help loved ones and hopes for another big win in the future.

More Mosaic Money prizes remain

For selling the winning ticket, the Gulf station that sold it will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The Mosaic Money scratch-off launched in March and still has three of its eight $50,000 top prizes unclaimed. Players can also win one of three remaining $5,000 prizes and thousands of smaller amounts between $5 and $1,000.

The lucky PG County player says his $50,000 win has only strengthened his belief that persistence pays off.
