Tiny store in Long Island unleashes massive lottery win

Mega Millions ticket worth $3 million sold at Long Island beer and smoke shop

MATTITUCK, NY — A Mega Millions ticket worth $3 million was sold at a small shop on the North Fork, turning an ordinary Long Island stop into the site of a multimillion-dollar windfall for one lucky player.

The New York Lottery confirmed that a second-prize-winning ticket from the November 11 Mega Millions drawing was sold at NOFO Beer and Smoke, located at 55 Middle Road in Mattituck. The ticket matched all five main numbers but missed the Mega Ball, qualifying for the $1 million second-tier prize. Because the ticket included the optional Megaplier add-on, the prize was tripled to $3 million.

The winning numbers were drawn on a Friday night as part of the twice-weekly Mega Millions drawing, which is broadcast live every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The game draws five numbers from 1 to 70 and a separate Mega Ball number from 1 to 24.

NOFO Beer and Smoke, a modest convenience store in the heart of wine country, has now joined the exclusive list of New York retailers that have sold high-value winning tickets.

The identity of the winner has not yet been revealed, and under New York law, winners can remain anonymous depending on the amount and claim method.

The New York Lottery remains the most profitable lottery in North America, with more than $3.6 billion generated to support public schools across the state in the last fiscal year. It continues to offer high-stakes games like Mega Millions and Powerball, which frequently produce million-dollar prizes for New Yorkers.
