Suspect arrested after deadly stabbing near Madison County line

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC – A man was taken into custody early Sunday after an overnight stabbing left one person dead and another seriously injured near the Madison County line.

Deputies with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to Loredos Drive just before midnight Saturday on a report of an injured person.

When they arrived, 18-year-old Antonio Contreras Macuixtle and 24-year-old Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle were found suffering from stab wounds and were rushed to Mission Hospital.

Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, while Antonio Contreras Macuixtle remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Suspect captured hours after fatal attack

Detectives identified the suspect as Dariel Gustavo Macuixtle Macuixtle, who was later located in Jackson County and taken into custody with the help of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities confirmed he has been charged with second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Law enforcement coordination credited in quick arrest

BCSO officials said the suspect was apprehended within hours of the initial call. He is being held without bond and will be transferred to the Buncombe County Detention Facility, where his booking photo is expected to be released later today.

District 2 Captain Chris Stockton praised the joint effort between Buncombe and Jackson County deputies, noting that the overnight coordination was key to swiftly capturing the suspect. “We are deeply grateful for the quick and vigilant response of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to our request for assistance,” Stockton said. “We are also saddened for the loss and grief brought on for the family of Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle.”

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
