Police Suspect More Victims After Babysitter Arrested for Sexual Assault

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA – A 24-year-old Crozet man has been arrested following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a child who was in his care earlier this week.

The Albemarle County Police Department said the arrest followed a report received Thursday indicating the assault occurred the previous day while the child was being babysat.

Investigators quickly identified the suspect as Maxwell H. Mandell and took him into custody Friday.

Mandell has been charged with felony aggravated sexual battery and felony indecent liberties with a child.

Suspect held without bond

Authorities confirmed that Mandell is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail as the investigation continues.

Police seeking additional information or victims

Detectives said Mandell has previously offered babysitting services and music lessons, and police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
