Authorities release description of man caught on camera stealing delivery from residence.
NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a package theft that took place earlier this week on Ellery Street.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, when a package was delivered to a home in the 100 block of Ellery Street. According to police, the victim later reviewed footage from a neighbor’s security camera showing a man arriving at the property on a bicycle before walking up the steps and taking the parcel from the front door.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a thin build. He was wearing a black bubble jacket, a turquoise hooded sweatshirt, dark blue jeans, and gray and white sneakers. The man was riding a bright blue or turquoise bicycle with hanger-style handlebars and an orange plastic bag hanging from the front.

Investigators said the suspect appeared to target the residence shortly after the package was dropped off. Police believe he may be connected to other recent incidents in the area involving similar methods of approach. Detectives are reviewing additional neighborhood footage and encouraging residents to check home surveillance systems for possible sightings.

Director Miranda urged anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the theft to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All calls can remain anonymous, and information leading to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
Police reminded residents to take precautions with deliveries during the busy holiday season, including using secure drop-off options such as Amazon lockers or requesting delivery notifications to reduce theft opportunities.
