Devils team up with Toms River to launch youth hockey program for first-time players

Toms River, NJ – Young hockey fans in Toms River are getting a chance to learn the game from the pros this winter through a new partnership between the Toms River Recreation Department, Winding River Ice Rink, the Toms River Blackhawks, and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

The “Learn to Play Hockey” program, designed for first-time players ages 5 to 9, runs for eight weeks starting in January and is led by USA Hockey Certified coaches alongside Devils alumni. Each registered child receives a full set of hockey gear as part of their enrollment.

Officials say the initiative aims to introduce children to skating and the fundamentals of hockey in a fun, supportive environment that encourages confidence and teamwork. The program will be held at Winding River Ice Rink, home of the Toms River Blackhawks youth hockey organization.

Registration is available online through the New Jersey Devils’ official portal, and space is limited. Parents are encouraged to sign up early to secure a spot for their children before the winter session fills up.
