DOVER, Del. – A Delaware State Police trooper was fatally shot after pushing a civilian to safety during a confrontation with a gunman on December 23, authorities confirmed.

Corporal Matthew “Ty” Snook, 34, died from gunshot wounds sustained while responding to the incident involving a 44-year-old suspect. Investigators said Snook acted heroically in his final moments, moving a nearby employee out of harm’s way before being struck by additional gunfire. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

Snook, a respected member of the Delaware State Police, served with distinction and was widely known for his professionalism and dedication to protecting the public. He is survived by his wife and their 1-year-old daughter.
