Perth Amboy issues winter weather advisory with snow expected to intensify Friday evening

PERTH AMBOY, N.J. – City officials are urging residents to prepare for hazardous travel conditions as a winter storm is forecast to bring several hours of heavy snow to the area Friday afternoon and evening.

According to the Perth Amboy Office of Emergency Management, snow is expected to begin around 3:30 p.m., with the heaviest bands falling between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at rates of up to one inch per hour. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly during the evening commute.

City crews are on standby to salt and plow major and emergency routes, while residents are asked to remain off the roads if possible and use caution if travel becomes necessary.

Parking restrictions will be enforced throughout the city, including on all snow emergency streets, around City Hall Circle, on the east side of High Street between The Circle and Gordon Street, and at the ends of dead-end streets. Vehicles left in restricted zones may be ticketed or towed.

Residents are reminded not to place chairs, cones, or other items to hold parking spots, and to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties without shoveling snow into the street. Snow should be placed on lawns or private property, and residents are asked to help keep fire hydrants clear.

Municipal parking lots will be open for metered spaces only, with exceptions for Lot 7 on Madison Avenue and the Jankowski Community Center lot on Olive Street.

Non-emergency assistance is available at 732-442-4400, while power outages should be reported to PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG. Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.
