Elderly woman killed in Union City hit-and-run, vehicle and suspect identified

UNION CITY, N.J. – An 83-year-old woman was struck and killed Saturday evening in a hit-and-run crash in Union City, prompting a joint investigation by local and county authorities, officials said.

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Union City police were called around 5:40 p.m. to the area of 30th Street and Palisades Avenue after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Fabiola Bedoya of Union City, suffering from severe injuries.

Bedoya was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just after 6:15 p.m. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Investigators with the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit later located a vehicle believed to have been involved and identified a person of interest. Officials have not released additional details as the investigation remains active.
