BURLEIGH, NJ – A 33-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday morning after a fire broke out inside a room at the Meadowbrook Motel along Route 147 in the Burleigh section of Middle Township.
Police said the blaze was reported around 7:45 a.m. when officers arrived to find smoke coming from Unit 16 on the east side of the property. Fire crews quickly began suppression efforts as emergency medical personnel treated the injured man at the scene.
The victim was transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of burn injuries. His condition has not been released.
Investigators from the Middle Township Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are working alongside the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Cape May Court House, Rio Grande, and Green Creek, along with AtlantiCare EMS.
